The Abbey of Prémontrés, historical monument of the XVIIIth century, is considered as the most beautiful example of monastic architecture of Lorraine. Built from 1705 till 1735, the abbey is rich in a long and animated history(story). In the past monastery of the canons in the order of Prémontrés up to French Revolution, then Small diocésain Seminary(Seminar) in the XIXth century, civil hospital from 1912 then serviceman during both World wars, the abbey was finally almost totally destroyed by the bombardments of September, 1944 and left with the state of ruins during almost 20 years. Thanks to the commitment of some fervent defenders of heritage, the Monument is saved from destruction and restored entirely in 1960s. Only the chorus(choir) of the minster is left in the state. It is the object of a construction site(work) of restoration(catering) initiated in 2014.
Since 1964, the Abbey is entirely managed by an Association (nonprofitable) law 1901 which gives it a new breath by transforming it into Cultural centre, today seen frequently by 90 000 visitors a year. Throughout the year, the Abbey of Prémontrés presents a rich cultural programme planning(programming) and various mixing(involving) exhibitions(exposures), concerts, theatre, conferences, thematic events, cultural meetings are also organised every year, of thematic exhibitions(exposures) and of contemporary art, giving priority to the emphasising of Lorraine know-how, sometimes unfairly misread(underestimated). Since 2009, summer exhibitions(exposures) go on in the splendid case of the garden of scents.
