" Wenn das ein Mensch(Mann) ist" (was ein Uomo ist questo è) ist eine autobiografische Zeugenaussage von Primo Levi auf ihrem Überleben im Konzentrationslager von Auschwitz, wo sie von Februar 1944 in der Befreiung des Lagers, dem 27. Januar 1945 behalten wird. Italienischer jüdischer Chemiker, der der Bewegung angeschlossen ist "giustizia e Libertà", wird sie als Widerstandskämpfer angehalten und in Auschwitz auf Grund der nazistischen rassischen Politik abgedrängt(deportiert). Den Auswahlprozess überlebt, wird er auf das Hilfslager von Monowitz-Buna übertragen und für den Kommando der Chemie verwendet, wesen beauftragt, einen Gummiersatz herzustellen, um die deutsche Kriegsanstrengung zu unterstützen.
Wenn ist das ein Mensch(Mann)? Wir sind befugt, uns die Frage zu stellen: Was macht, dass ein Mensch(Mann) nicht mehr ein ist? Eine andere Frage ist uns durch die Zeugenaussage von Primo Levi auch ruhig: Was stößt(schiebt) einen sich widersetzenden(aushaltenden) Menschen(Mann)?

« If it is a man» (questo è an uomo) an autobiographic evidence of Primo Levi on its survival in the concentration camp of Auschwitz is, where it is kept of February, 1944 at the liberation of the camp, on January 27th, 1945. Italian Jewish chemist, affiliated to movement «giustizia e Libertà», he is stopped(arrested) as Resistance fighter and deported in Auschwitz because of Nazi racial politics(policy). Having survived the process of selection, he is transferred to the auxiliary camp of Monowitz-Buna and allocated to the kommando of chemistry, loaded(in charge of) producing a rubber ersatz to support the German war effort.
If it is a man? We are entitled to ask ourselves question: what makes that a man is not any more one? Another question is also composed to us across the evidence of Primo Levi: what urges a man to resist?
