Église Saint-Étienne
Rue Philippe-de-Commines 37500 Chinon
- Indre-et-Loire
- Centre-Val de Loire
Parish church entirely rebuilt in the XVth century (only the north bell tower is previous(former)). Saint-Etienne is a large church-hall(-market) in a single nave, of uncluttered architecture. The stained-glass windows of the workshop Lobin of Tours(Ballots,Towers) were installed(settled) from 1860 in the chorus(choir), and tell the story of saint Étienne. On the sides of the chorus(choir), other later stained-glass windows tell episodes of the history(story) of Chinonais: in the South, died from saint Martin in Candes, miracle of saint Mexme; in the North, meeting of saint Radegonde and of the hermit Jean de Chinon, Jeanne d'Arc recognising Charles VII. This stained-glass window dated of 1881 is the first one devoted to Jeanne d'Arc installed(settled) in a church.
