The basilica Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, masterpiece of the Romanesque art, is saved from ruins and from oversight(forgetting) in the XIXth century thanks to the architect Viollet-le-Duc. In the IXth century, on the base(basis) simple monastery Benedictine, the abbey of Vézelay becomes, thanks to its relics, one of the centres of medieval faith. Its facade is sober and unassuming, its plan trains(forms) a Latin cross. To go around the building gives an idea of its scale: more than 120 m of length.
