La villa gallo-romaine du Vernai

The site of Vernai presents the vestiges of a human activity(occupation) of the IIIth century s. av(avenue). J.-C. at the end of Middle Ages. The Gallo-Roman villa, which found its origin in a big(great) Gallic farm, extended over 13 hectares and was one of larger of Gaul. Of this real rural palace are presented a thermal sector, a colonnade opened on a court(yard), a swimming pool, a chapel at the origin of the current church as well as an economic building(ship).
After the destruction of the villa, the site is always occupied. A housing environment furthermore of 200m ², dated the VIth century and plan of which has just been restored, illustrates the importance of the site at the beginning of Middle Ages. Finally, around the church, are visible the rests of the castle built by the Dolphin(Heir apparent) in the XIVth century.
