The belfry the closed and massive head of which contains the clock in four dials and a carillon singing the air of Kind Annette de BOIELDIEU (French compositor 1775-1834) is a square tower of red brick of Kortrijk and white stones 75 metres in heights. It is connected(bound) by an ark with the main body of the building(ship) there. Upper part(party) is decorated with four golden knights who fix cardinal points. The summit of the tower is endowed with a multitude of little steeples and covered with slates. The weather vane, represents a dragon, guard of Treasuries during the antiquity(antique).
Duration of visit: 20 minutes. Departure of visits every 20 minutes from 10 h 00 and 14 h 00.

In 1885, the fusion(merger) of Calais with Saint-Pierre-de-Calais pulls(entails) the construction of a new Town hall. Project is confided(entrusted) to the architect Louis Debrouwer who favours a concrete(watertight) structure. Works extend from 1911 till 1923\. Decorations(Sets) are realised in 1924 and 1925\. The brick-built building red, is of inspiration Flemish neo-revival. A 72 metre belfry dominates it. The decorations(sets) of the rooms(parts,plays) of splendour, on the first floor, are of inspiration Art deco. The painted decorations(sets) are the expression of regional artists in a historiciste style. The staircase of honour is lighted(enlightened) by a historiée glass roof representing the grip(taking) of Calais by the duke of Please.
