Having installed(settled) first in the abbey Saint German, then in a wing of the middle school(college), then in the vacant(free) premises(places) of the church Notre-Dame-La-D' Hors, the library(bookcase) took a seat(took place) under the Second Empire in a building(ship) which also sheltered the museum. In 1979, it gains(wins) the district of the Bridge(Deck), in a new structure of 3100 m2, conceived(designed) by the architect Alain Bourbonnais. Established(Constituted) in revolutionary time(period) by the father Laire, librarian and bibliophile, the patrimonial library(bookcase) includes works mainly (manuscripts, incunabulum, printed documents) confiscated from the abbey of Pontigny, from the abbey Saint German and to other religious communities of Auxerre, as well as to the emigrants. If revolutionary confiscations established(constituted) the origin of collections, big(great) donations in the course of XIXÈ century are a source(spring) of essential knowledge for the history(story) of the region and of the department. Among these, are to note donations Amé, Bastard and Lorin. The library(bookcase) also keeps(preserves) a rich contemporary fund(collection) of book-collecting compound(made up) of bindings of creations of contemporary artists and fund(collection) about 400 artists' books(pounds).
