In 2019, prior to the construction of a municipal housing estate, an Inrap team carried out an archaeological excavation in Allonnes lasting several months. The operation yielded a considerable number of remains and information, revealing the presence of a vast Gallic settlement, probably founded at the beginning of the 2nd century BC, and its sanctuary.
An exhibition, designed by INRAP on the occasion of the European Days of Archaeology, is proposed to restore the main results and present this major Gallic site, remarkable on the scale of Celtic Europe. For the first time, a selection of objects found during the excavation will be displayed to the public. In parallel, educational workshops will be led by archaeologists from Inrap during the weekend, and a conference will be offered on Friday evening.
