About the location

The secondary lock Le Corbusier, with its control tower and administrative building, is a remarkable ensemble in the history of modern French architecture.
It is one of the few French public commissions made to the architect Le Corbusier and its only realization in Alsace. Passed unnoticed in the river work of a world-famous architect, the two buildings are nevertheless of great wealth. They are the synthesis of all the building principles of Le Corbusier: the choice of bare concrete, the hyperbolic paraboloid roof of the administrative building, the undulating glass panels, the architectural promenade.
For the European Heritage Days, we offer you a guided tour of this site unknown to the general French public, often quoted as an architectural curiosity.
The site has received financial support from the Heritage Foundation and the Mission Bern, because of the urgent need to take steps to safeguard this architectural work and to undertake the necessary restoration work quickly.
