Virtual Q&A – Preserving Paradise: Digital Archives, Access, and Climate Resilience in the Maldives
In celebration of International Archives Week 2025
Theme: #ArchivesAreAccessible – Archives for Everyone
To mark International Archives Week 2025, the National Archives of Maldives (NAM) is hosting a special Virtual Q&A session under the global theme: “Archives are Accessible – Archives for Everyone.” In line with this international call to action, our session—Preserving Paradise: Digital archives, access, and climate resilience in the Maldives—explores how digital archiving plays a vital role in protecting our documentary heritage amid growing climate threats.
Join us as we bring together citizens, researchers, educators, government stakeholders, and climate advocates to discuss why access to archives must go hand in hand with digital innovation and environmental resilience.
During this interactive session, we will:
• Highlight the urgency of preservation in the Maldives, a nation highly vulnerable to climate change.
• Share NAM’s digital archive initiative aimed at improving access, safeguarding fragile materials, and enabling long-term heritage protection.
• Showcase how digital tools can help connect communities across the islands and beyond, ensuring archives truly remain for everyone.
• Explore the role of public engagement, including oral histories and community-driven contributions.
• Invite ideas, feedback, and support from local and international partners to help us sustain this vital work.
