Athome – A return to the roots, an invitation to journey inward, a need to reconnect with the self and to share that connection.
Trained in jazz and improvised music, Alexandre Millet has spent the past fifteen years collaborating with artists such as Oumou Sangaré, Gaël Faye, Mai Lan, and Madjo. With Athome, he steps forward as a composer and lead musician in his own right. With honesty and sensitivity, he offers a deeply personal odyssey at the crossroads of jazz, pop, and world music.
“In 2019, a vital impulse led me deep into the Amazon jungle, where I sought healing from Peruvian shamans. That journey took me to the very depths of my being, to the discovery of my essence – the atom.
In March 2020, almost exactly one year after returning from Peru, we found ourselves in lockdown. All of us, ‘at home’. It was a time of intense emotion that opened up a new space for creation.
The eleven tracks on this album speak to trauma, heritage, intergenerational memory, and the loved ones we’ve lost. Our lives are shaped by these inheritances – some we long to break free from, others we wish to live with peacefully.
Athome is the expression of all this legacy – everything that makes us who we are.
Athome is the outward expression of what I discovered within.”

Formé au jazz et aux musiques improvisées, Alexandre Millet collabore depuis maintenant une quinzaine d'années avec des artistes tels qu'Oumou Sangaré, Gaël Faye, Mai Lan ou encore Madjo. Avec Athome, il s'affirme comme compositeur et musicien leader. Il offre avec sincérité et pudeur, son odyssée intérieure aux frontières du jazz, de la pop et de la world music.
« En 2019, un élan vital me porte dans la jungle amazonienne afin de recevoir les soins de chamans péruviens. Ce séjour me fera voyager au plus profond de moi, et m’emmènera à la rencontre de mon essence. L’atome.
En mars 2020, presque une année jour pour jour après mon retour du Pérou, nous voici confinés. Tous « at home ». Une période chargée émotionnellement qui m’offre un nouvel espace de création.
Les 11 titres qui composent l’album évoquent les traumatismes, l’hérédité, le transgénérationnel, les proches disparus. Notre existence est balisée par tous ces héritages. Certains dont on souhaite se défaire, d’autres avec lesquels on aimerait cohabiter paisiblement.
Athome, c’est l’expression de tout ce patrimoine qui fait de nous ce que nous sommes.
Athome, c’est l’expression extérieure de ce que j’ai découvert à l’intérieur. »
