With the season Mouvements !, the Institut Suédois celebrates the centenary of the Swedish Ballets and dedicates its multidisciplinary programming to dance as a vector of artistic and societal changes
Discover the art of voguing highlighted through the documentary film KIKI by Sara Jordenö and Twiggy Pucci Garçon, one of the pillars of this season.
In New York, young people from the Black and Latinx LGBTQI + community gather on the pier of Christopher Street to indulge in an art of their invention, based on the performance of voguing, made famous in the early 1990s by the video clip Vogue by Madonna and by the documentary Paris Is Burning by Jennie Livingston. Twenty-five years later, a new generation of LGBTQI+ youth has taken over and formed an activist artistic subculture: the Kiki scene.
Fruit of the collaboration between the Swedish artist and filmmaker Sara Jordenö and one of the eminent personalities of this scene, activist artist Twiggy Pucci Garçon, the documentary film offers a dive into the heart of the Kiki community and its challenges. It follows for four years the course, the preparations and the performances, during the balls, of seven of its members among which we find Twiggy Pucci Garçon but also Chi Chi, Gia, Chris, Divo, Symba and Zariya.
The ballroom competitions, places of their spectacular performances, also become the place of expression of their fight against homelessness, disease and prejudice, in resonance with the Black and Trans Lives Matter movements. “Not About Us Without Us” is the motto of this new generation.

The documentary film Kiki is one of the three projects arising from the collaboration between the Swedish artist and filmmaker Sara Jordenö and the US militant artist Twiggy Pucci Garçon: an exhibition documenting the art project in public space, The Reincarnation of Rockland Palace (2012); several screenings of the documentary film KIKI made in 2016; and a new performance event in the form of a French-Swedish-American Ball featuring runway and voguing workshops and opportunities to meet members of the Ballroom community in Sweden, Paris and New York.
