Purist Electrochemistry in the Face of the Five Scientific Paradigms Not Only a Problem for Fans of Electron Transfer!
The Rennes Institute of Chemical Sciences (ISCR) is pleased to welcome in Rennes Olivier Fontaine (Molecule, Electrochimistry and Energy Lab, Institut Courtois, University of Montréal, Canada / IUF Member) on Friday, October 16, 2026. The conference will take place at 11:00 am in Grandjean Amphitheater, building 10B, Beaulieu Campus.
Abstract
Electrochemistry can be considered as a purist science, started in empirical observations, fundamental concepts and models that still strongly structure the way we describe electrochemical phenomena.
At the same time, electrochemistry has always followed the scientific trends of time. Modern tools now give access to an increasing quantity of information and allow us to explore electrochemical systems in a much larger space. We are progressively moving from a classical 3-dimensional representation to an N-dimensional space, where many parameters can be correlated at the same time. But does exploring more dimensions necessarily mean understanding electrochemistry differently? The emergence of artificial intelligence as a fifth scientific paradigm gives a new dimension to this question. [...]
