The Kriess Stiehr-Mockers organ of the Catholic church of Barr will celebrate its 200 years in 2026. It is unfortunately silent for 40 years.
Restoration work will soon bring it back to life! In the meantime, come and visit the interior of the organ, its impressive wind tunnel located in the bell tower and its numerous pneumatic mechanisms. A computer operating in air!

We can place the origin of the parish of Saint-Martin and its first church in the 6th century. This was on a small hill, at the foot of Kirchberg. A new church was built around the middle of the 12th century. There remains the imposing Romanesque tower of the current Protestant church.
In 1545, the city of Barr passed to the Reformation. The church Saint-Martin became a place of protestant worship. In 1685, Louis XIV imposed to grant the use of the choir to the small number of Catholics in the city. This is called the 'Simultaneum'. This cohabitation was not always well lived, because Catholics became an increasingly important minority over the decades. In 1826, they obtained their own church. It was installed in the old manège of a disused barracks on the western edge of the old town.
Saint Martin, secular titular of the ancient church and patron of the city, was given to him as titular. Fortunately, the building was oriented as any church should be, that is, the choir turned towards
