This fortress, confined with moats, built in the 12th century by the de Losse family, originally from Flanders, was rebuilt during the Renaissance. Its plan develops along two wings arranged at an angle, the longest of which is in a sheer height above the Vézère. The courtyard of honor is embellished with a low garden separated by an arch and structured by a narrow channel where lavender blossoms surrounded by Elaeagnus carved into a bench. The whole is set in parterres dotted with pruned cypresses. Overlooking the river, terraces magnify a cascade of roses and a subtle work of knot garden. Outside the walls, a succession of green rooms, designed in the manner of the 16th century, invites the walker to get lost in a maze of hornbeams, topiaries, potted laurels and flowerbeds. The space finally opens onto a quincunx walnut plantation blending with the surrounding nature. The dialogue between architecture and nature, orchestrated by Jacqueline van der Schueren, reveals all the charms of this residence.
