On a slightly hilly ground of the valley of the Veude, the fifteen gardens of the castle of the Rivau spread out on six hectares. Patricia Laigneau, owner and art historian by training, has revived abandoned gardens through her creativity, her sensitivity to the masses and colors, and her attention to respect for biodiversity. The high towers, like all the defensive attributes of the medieval castle, transport the owner to the land of tales who then decides to create gardens that would not only have a botanical theme, but also literary. On the half-moon parterre, vegetables with impressive growths are grown to evoke Gargantua’s vegetable garden and his legendary appetite. At the level of the garden of Petit Poucet, in the north, in the space of the Verger du Paradis, a pair of oversized boots, by the artist Lilian Bourgeat, evokes the seven-league boots at the same time as she denounces the consumer society. To the south, the Enchanted Forest, planted with oaks, chestnuts, holly and topiary of yews, is populated by dwarfs with renowned faces. Then, a labyrinth of hornbeams carved in the shape of a cat evokes Alice and her wonderland. The garden thus offers an escape into an enchanted landscape world, while holding on to contemporary dynamics. After the installation of the work by the sculptor Basserode, la Forêt qui court, in the wood of the park, the castle welcomes more and more works by contemporary artists.
