The madd-bordeaux is housed in the hotel of Lalande, a mansion from the late 18th century and in an old prison built in the 19th century. These two buildings have been classified as historical monuments since 2018.
The museum’s collections are an example of French decorative arts, particularly from Bordeaux, in the 18th and 19th centuries, and a testament to the history of Bordeaux, a major trading port in the 18th century.
Within the permanent exhibition, the museum regularly renews the presentation of design collections, offering a journey between eras, in order to raise questions around themes such as use, techniques and the place of objects in our daily lives. The madd-bordeaux also programs temporary exhibitions, workshops, meetings and conferences.
The works of the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Bordeaux, which will be completed in 2026, will make it possible to bring together its 2 buildings, to propose a new tour route and to modernize the spaces, while meeting the ecological and energy requirements of a 21st century museum.
