Hameau d'Usson, 09460 Rouze, France
Perched on a spur at an altitude of 920 meters, built between the 12th and 13th centuries, this Ariège castle, former residence of the lords of Cerdagne and Foix, occupied a strategic place controlling the valley of the Aude and protected the country of Donezan from any incursion. The Heritage House is located in the old stables, at the entrance of the castle. One can discover the long history of Usson and Donezan, from prehistory to our days, thanks to its permanent exhibitions, its slideshow, its remains from archaeological excavations carried out on the castle. One can also discover the reconstruction of a traditional mountain habitat. Many activities in summer: falconry shows, treasure hunts, historical reenactments... enough to liven up the castle all summer!
