2bis Rue Maurice Denis, 78100 Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France
Maurice Denis (1870-1943), one of the main members of the Nabis group, was a prolific artist with multiple talents: painter and theorist, decorator, glass-painter, engraver and illustrator. He also participated in the foundation of the Ateliers d'art sacré in 1919\. Having always lived in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, he built on this site in 1912 a large workshop to realize the decor of the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées which was commissioned. He then acquired the estate in 1914, transforming the main building into a family home. With the help of Auguste Perret, he renovated the old chapel, which he decorated entirely with murals and stained glass. The garden, planted with tall trees, offers a natural extension to the contemplation of the works presented in the museum. The painter Maurice Denis lived the last thirty years of his life in this beautiful building, former royal general hospital of the late seventeenth century, which he renamed "Le Prieuré".. property/management: Property of the Yvelines Departmental Council,
