In 1926, Joseph Puig bequeathed his collection of coins and medals to the city of Perpignan, as well as the "Villa les Tilleuls", with the intention that this building should not receive any other purpose than that of being converted into a museum. The collection bequeathed by Joseph Puig consisted of some 30,000 coins, medals and numismatic objects. The city has enriched it and made this fund one of the most important in France: the museum now has 45,000 pieces from all eras and all countries, from the first currencies to the euro.
