Die Bastiden, diese neuen Städte, die ab dem 13. Jahrhundert gegründet wurden, um das Gebiet zu organisieren, nahmen meist einen orthogonalen Plan an, der um einen zentralen Handelsplatz strukturiert war. Bretenoux hat diesen regelmäßigen Plan sowie seine ursprüngliche Parzelle bemerkenswert bewahrt.
