The L’Huillier–Coburg Castle in Edelény is one of the largest and most beautiful Baroque castles in Hungary, boasting outstanding historical importance and a unique atmosphere. Its picturesque, 12-hectare park lies in the embrace of the Bódva River and its backwater, set within a magnificent natural environment. With its romantic promenades, it serves as an ideal location for the "Rendez-vous in the European Gardens 2026" program series.
Built between 1716 and 1730, the L’Huillier–Coburg Castle now attracts visitors with a unique experience: a special, guided garden tour. This takes place within the framework of a pleasant walk through the castle park, which is a protected Natura 2000 site, home to outstanding natural values and a rich variety of flora and fauna. In the 18th century, a magnificent geometric French garden (Jardin à la française) was created here. At the beginning of the 19th century, the park was transformed into a natural English landscape garden by the then-owners, the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha ducal family, the features of which can still be admired today. In the park, visitors can walk in the cool shade of huge plane trees and noble columnar oaks.
