Bellefond was originally a priory built by the regular canons of the Order of St. Augustine. In 1186, he was submitted to the monastery of the Sauve-majeure. During the troubles of the 16th century, significant damage was done to the church and claustral buildings. In 1655, the priory was united with the monastery of the Feuillants of Bordeaux, who kept it until the Revolution. The lower parts of the priory wall, which included the church, cemetery and claustral buildings, exist almost entirely but in ruins. The church and claustral buildings had to be rebuilt at the end of the 12th century by the monks of La Sauve. The church should have consisted of a long nave ending with a pentagonal apse. Two transept arms were to give it the shape of a Latin cross. The transept, apse and absidioles were built. The nave remained in the project state. Construction remodeled in the 16th century. In 1863-1866, a major restoration was carried out, profoundly altering the interior of the building. Romanesque door and flat buttresses of the 12th or 13th century.
