The association Sauvegarde et Avenir de Troyes (SAT), founded in 1963 under the name of «Association pour la Sauvegarde du Vieux Troyes», is a 1901 law organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the architectural and urban heritage of the city of Troyes. Inspired by the spirit of the Malraux law, it initially focused on protecting the historic center, characterized by its half-timbered houses from the 16th century. Over the years, SAT has expanded its scope to include architectural legacies from the 19th and early 20th centuries, such as Haussmann buildings, factories, schools and administrative buildings.
The SAT organizes various activities to raise awareness of the importance of the Trojan heritage. These include heritage visits, conferences, cultural trips and participation in European Heritage Days. Since 1964, it has also awarded Écussons, honorary trophies that reward owners who have carried out exemplary restorations of old buildings.
