Natur und Kunst und auch die Lebensgeschichte des 80-jährigen Gestalters zeigen sich in jedem Winkel des Gartens. Zum ersten Mal erhalten "Fremde" und Außenstehende diesen Einblick. Auf 45 Jahre Sammelleidenschaft trifft fundiertes Fachwissen, das vom bedeutenden Staudenzüchter Karl Foerster und dem Gartenarchitekten Hermann Mattern geprägt wurde. Hendrik Gottfriedsen verwirklichte auf seinem Grundstück ihre Gedanken des „doppelten Gartenreiches“, eine Symbiose aus architektonischer Strenge und botanischer Fülle.
Der Gartenbesitzer führt selbst durch sein Reich. Zwischen den Führungen erzählt Herta Simon, Buchautorin, Pflanzplanerin und Gottfriedsen's langjährige „Grüne Begleiterin“ aus Ihrem Leben und vertieft den Einblick in die Grundlagen und praktische Umsetzung von Gartengestaltung.
