Description:
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, Jean-Jacques Grizeaud, archaeologist at INRAP, presents the conference: The site of Erbaghjolu in Belgodère 2000 years ago. An ancient settlement, a domus of the Early Roman Empire – Presentation of the results of the archaeological excavation of 2020.
The site of Erbaghjolu in the commune of Belgodère in Balagne (Haute-Corse), is located on a plateau overlooking the bay of Losari which offers an outlet to the Mediterranean Sea. The conference will be a presentation of the results of the excavation of a rural settlement from the period of the Early Roman Empire conducted during the summer of 2020. The research was carried out in particular on a large building with a surface area of 190m 2, testifying to the presence of a domus located at the end of the 1st century BC. The site of Erbaghjolu therefore offers an unprecedented reading, and archaeologically documents on 1700 m 2, an establishment that extends overbeyond the hold of the excavation on a large part of the plateau overlooking the sea, the Erbaghjola river and the strategic valley of Réginu.
