Die zwischen 1840 und 1858 erbaute monumentale Treppe Saint-Pierre ist Teil eines Projekts zur Modernisierung der Hafenfassade von Pont-Saint-Esprit an der Rhône. Er verbindet die Kais mit dem Herzen der Stadt.
Mit einer Länge von 75 Metern und einer Höhe von mehr als 10 Metern weist er eine symmetrische Komposition auf: zwei Treppenreihen führen zu einem breiten zentralen Sockel, der von sieben geschnitzten Arkaden getragen wird. Geländer und Geländer aus geschnitztem Stein runden dieses bemerkenswerte Ensemble ab.
Sein Dekor verbindet religiöse Symbole und Hinweise auf die Flussaktivität: die theologischen Tugenden, der Anker der Hoffnung, der Pelikan der Nächstenliebe, das Dreieck, das den Glauben und die Trinität symbolisiert, ein Boot mit vollem Schleier, das an "Menschenfischer" erinnert, aber auch Obstkörbe, Fässer und Enten. Er betont damit die Bedeutung der Rhone in der spirituellen, wirtschaftlichen und städtischen Geschichte der Stadt.
Sein Stil verbindet Neoklassizismus und Neugotik im Geiste der großen Umbauten des 19. Jahrhunderts. Das 1944 bombardierte und dann durch die Zeit geschwächte Treppenhaus wurde nach seiner Auswahl im Jahr 2019 vom Patrimoine Loto restauriert.
Der Gewinner des Wettbewerbs der Rubans du patrimoine im Jahr 2024, die Treppe Saint-Pierre bleibt heute ein starkes Symbol des Erbes von Pont-Saint-Esprit.

Built between 1840 and 1858, the monumental Saint-Pierre staircase is part of a project to modernize the port facade of Pont-Saint-Esprit, on the Rhône. It connects the docks in the heart of the city.
75 meters long and over 10 meters high, it has a symmetrical composition: two flights of stairs lead to a wide central landing, supported by seven carved arcades. Balustrades and railings in carved stone complete this remarkable ensemble.
Its decor combines religious symbols and references to fluvial activity: the theological virtues, the anchor of Hope, the pelican of Charity, the triangle evoking Faith and the Trinity, a full-sailed boat recalling the "fishermen of men", but also baskets of fruit, barrels and ducks. He thus affirms the importance of the Rhône in the spiritual, economic and urban history of the city.
His style combines neo-classicism and neo-Gothic, in the spirit of the great developments of the 19th century. Bombed in 1944 and then weakened by time, the staircase was restored after its selection in 2019 by the Loto du patrimoine.
Winner of the Rubans du patrimoine competition in 2024, the Saint-Pierre staircase remains today a strong symbol of the heritage of Pont-Saint-Esprit.

Costruita tra il 1840 e il 1858, la scala monumentale di Saint-Pierre si inserisce in un progetto di modernizzazione della facciata portuale di Pont-Saint-Esprit, sul Rodano. Permette di collegare le banchine al cuore della città.
Lungo 75 metri e alto più di 10, presenta una composizione simmetrica: due rampe di scale portano a un ampio pianerottolo centrale, sostenuto da sette arcate scolpite. Balaustre e parapetti in pietra tagliata completano questo insieme notevole.
La sua decorazione combina simboli religiosi e riferimenti all'attività fluviale: le virtù teologali, l'ancora della Speranza, il pellicano della Carità, il triangolo che evoca la Fede e la Trinità, una barca a vela piena che ricorda i "pescatori di uomini", ma anche cesti di frutta, barili e anatre. Afferma così l'importanza del Rodano nella storia spirituale, economica e urbana della città.
Il suo stile mescola neoclassicismo e neogotico, nello spirito dei grandi lavori del XIX secolo. Bombardata nel 1944 e poi indebolita dal tempo, la scala è stata restaurata dopo essere stata selezionata, nel 2019, dalla Loto du patrimoine.
Vincitore del concorso dei Nastri del patrimonio nel 2024, la scala Saint-Pierre rimane oggi un forte simbolo del patrimonio di Pont-Saint-Esprit.

Con una longitud de 75 metros y una altura de más de 10 metros, presenta una composición simétrica: dos rampas de escaleras conducen a un amplio piso central, sostenido por siete arcadas esculpidas. Balaustradas y barandillas de piedra tallada completan este conjunto notable.
Su decoración combina símbolos religiosos y referencias a la actividad fluvial: las virtudes teologales, el ancla de la Esperanza, el pelícano de la Caridad, el triángulo que evoca la Fe y la Trinidad, una barca con plena vela que recuerda a los «pescadores de hombres», pero también cestas de frutas, toneles y patos. Afirma así la importancia del Ródano en la historia espiritual, económica y urbana de la ciudad.
Su estilo mezcla neoclasicismo y neogótico, en el espíritu de las grandes reformas del siglo XIX. Bombardeada en 1944 y luego debilitada por el tiempo, la escalera fue restaurada después de su selección, en 2019, por el Loto del patrimonio.
Ganador del concurso de las Cintas del Patrimonio en 2024, la escalera Saint-Pierre sigue siendo hoy un símbolo fuerte del patrimonio de Pont-Saint-Esprit.
