This building was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900, dedicated to the celebration of art, and was originally intended to house the salons. The construction was entrusted to several architects (Deglane for the main building; Louvet for intermediate construction; Thomas for the building parallel to the main building; Girault as coordinator of the ensemble). Neo-Louis style 14 with some references to 18th century art. Influence of art nouveau. Facade siding made of stone; metal and glass nave frame; reinforced concrete. Decoration due to various artists (Récipon for the two quadriges; Conception of the mosaic frieze by Louis-Edouard Fournier and execution by Guibert-Martin). The building served as a military hospital during the first World War. Decommissioned during the period 1950-1960\. From 1965, development of the National Galleries. The complex includes: The Great nave, the National Galleries and the Palace of Discovery.
