[The military school is exceptionally closed to the public for JEP 2024] Every year, 10,000 visitors do us the honor of visiting the military school to discover its architecture, heritage, thematic exhibitions, its animations, historical reconstructions, etc.

Louis XV, at the instigation of the Paris brothers and Madame de Pompadour, set his sights on the plain of Grenelle, a former Garenne, which was part of the Sainte-Geneviève abbey and part of the Hôtel des Invalides in order to create a military school. Ange-Jacques Gabriel was chosen to design and ensure the construction of the buildings. In 1773, the work was completed. The royal courtyard is framed by porticoes with Doric columns on the ground floor and Ionic upstairs. The central body or castle dominates it without ostentation, decorated with colossal Corinthian columns and surmounted by a quadrangular dome. In 1780, the architect Gabriel being 82 years old, the architect Boullée, then the architect Théodore Brongniart who completes the work and finishes in particular the side pavilions of the castle. In 1787, the school was definitively closed. Its premises were assigned to the Hôtel-Dieu. The Revolution first established a flour depot and hand mills there, and in August 1792 the
