Russian-Byzantine Orthodox cathedral built for the Russian community in Paris on the initiative of Joseph Vassiliev, ambassador of the imperial embassy of Russia. It was designed by the architect Roman Kouzmine, first architect of the imperial court; the architect Ivan Strohm directed the works in Paris from 1860; the cathedral is consecrated on September 11, 1861\. It contains many paintings and icons due to Theodore Bronnikov and the brothers Eugraph and Paul Sorokine. Following infiltrations, the crypt was restored from 1955 to 1956, and entirely repainted with frescoes by the decorator and architect Albert-Alexandrovitch Benois, created in collaboration with his wife Marguerite. They evoke the Christianization of Russia.
