The abbey of Septfontaines was born at the beginning of the 12th century. In 1138, it was confirmed by a papal bull and attached to the order of Premonstratensian, which had just been founded by Saint Norbert. After the Revolution, it was used as a farm by its new owners, and the estate was divided into three distinct areas. The nave of the church and part of the buildings collapse. The abbey found a new life in 1886 when it was bought by Count Theodore Ducos, son of the Minister of the Navy of Napoleon III and Anne Joly, native of Haute-Marne. Théodore Ducos undertook a major restoration, while adding buildings and architectural elements that blend harmoniously with the ancient heritage. Upon his death, the abbey spent some time in the public domain and became a museum. But, again badly maintained, it returns to the heirs of Count Ducos. Today it is the great-grandniece of Count Ducos who, with her family, takes care of the abbey.
