The Horti Leonini are a charming garden located in the heart of San Quirico d'Orcia, among the ancient bastions of the village on the Via Francigena. Built around 1581 on land that Francesco I dei Medici had donated to Diomede Leoni, the Horti take their name from their owner and have maintained until today the original structure, It is a well-preserved example of a classic Italian garden and a model of a park-like arrangement taken up in the following centuries. The garden is divided into two parts. The lower area, diamond-shaped, which is accessed through a small brick courtyard, is fenced by walls and pruned holm oaks and consists of triangular flower beds bordered by a double boxwood hedge, with the statue of Cosimo III dei Medici in the center, sculpted by Bartolomeo Mazzuoli (1688).
