A few days before embarking on the Thalassa, an oceanographic vessel of the lfremer, Bernard Bourlès presents the 26th PIRATA region in the tropical Atlantic. In these waters, an important network of ocean and weather monitoring buoys is installed and removed each year to better follow and understand ocean currents, their interaction with the atmosphere and to improve weather forecasting.

By Bernard BOURLES, oceanographer at the IRD - LEGOS (Research Laboratory in Spatial Geophysics and Oceanography) at Brest.
