THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS
KURT WEILL & BERTOLT BRECHT

DR
A condensed version of the masterpiece by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, featuring Véronique Valdès (mezzo-soprano), Françoise Courvoisier (narrator), and Nicolas Le Roy (piano).
The last of eight theatrical collaborations between Brecht and Weill, "The Seven Deadly Sins" dates from 1933, when the two artists, driven into exile by the Nazis, sought refuge in Paris.
The action unfolds in the heart of an America that is part real, part imaginary: two sisters from the Southern states set off to earn the money needed for their family, who have remained in Louisiana, to build a small house. Both are called Anna: Anna I, the impresario, and Anna II, the artist. One sells; the other is the merchandise.
The text is concise, sometimes provocative, and often humorous. In contrast, the music is intoxicatingly beautiful and hauntingly memorable.
This production, presented by Les Amis musiquethéâtre, was enthusiastically received by audiences when it premiered last season. Don’t miss this return engagement!
