A building with remarkable architecture, the Sign is a building of 2900 m², consisting of the building of the former Bank of France and a contemporary extension of 1000 m² of exhibition space, created by the agency Moatti – Rivière and inaugurated in 2016.
On the occasion of the Heritage Days, the Sign invites its public to discover the building and its hidden details, in order to better understand the relationship between graphics and architecture.

About the location

Le Signe - Centre National du Graphisme et Musée de l'Affiche
1 place des Arts, 52000 Chaumont
  • Haute-Marne
  • Grand Est
Chaumont and the poster are bound by a common destiny since the donation of the deputy Gustave Dutailly - nearly 5,000 old posters - in 1905\.
Representative of the «golden age» of the French illustrated poster, the Dutailly collection is one of the main French public collections in the field. The rediscovery of this heritage in the 1980s led to the creation of an international poster festival, followed by a graphic arts festival, which enriched the collection with posters sent to the competition by graphic designers from all continents. Chaumont’s contemporary poster collection now includes approximately 45,000 iconic pieces of the best international poster production in recent decades.
It is on the quality of this collection and the recognition of the festival that developed the project of establishing in Chaumont the first permanent place in France dedicated to graphics. The centre is located on the site of the former Banque de France.
