Pernot School of Drawing and Painting Annual Exhibition

To compete with the free school opened by the Sisters of Saint-Charles (to the right of the hospital), Abbé Coquard, parish priest of Wassy, created in 1825 the boarding school of the Ladies of Saint-Maur. Its construction is financed by the municipality, King Charles X and donations from the inhabitants. Initially a private dwelling, it consists of an L-shaped building (north and east wings). The sisters of the Charitable Instruction of the Holy Child Jesus, called ladies of Saint-Maur, installed there this boarding school for young girls from the bourgeoisie. This property is located on Rue de la Porte Neuve (Rue Chanlaire today). Even though it has a good reputation, families send their daughters to learn a certain way of life.
The building expanded with the purchase of neighbouring houses (east wing) in order to build a free class in 1830\. In the middle of the 19th century, Joseph Constant Ménissier decorated the false barrel vault of the chapel.
