Inaugurated by the Duke of Penthièvre in 1784, it is the symbol of the renaissance of Châteauvillain which emerged from a difficult period. The 14th century church, whose bell tower is the only witness, restored at the end of the 18th century, reveals a superb façade signed Soufflot. The church has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1972, while the façade was listed as a Historic Monument in the same year.
Its choir, surmounted by a dome, is surrounded by four chapels. The paintings that completely cover the walls recount various biblical events. The windows feature 19th-century stained-glass windows donated by various religious congregations. The altars are marble and date from the eighteenth century, as well as the pulpit. The coats of arms of the town and the Penthièvre family can still be seen on the vault of the organ case, which was rebuilt in 1877.
The church also has a new organ built around 1877 by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll to replace the organ in 1786 by the factor Jean Ri
