About the location

Église Saint-Julien
1 rue des carrières Saint-Julien, 14000 Caen
  • Calvados
  • Normandie
The church Saint Julien was rebuilt between 1953 and 1958 (after destruction in July, 1944, of the old(former) church dating the XVth century located at the bottom of ditches(gaps) Julian saint). It was conceived(designed) in a resolutely contemporary spirit by the architect Henry Bernard, who is also known for the realisation of the university from Caen and of the Maison de la Radio to Paris. Its large volumes and its 4500 paving stones of coloured glass create an atmosphere advantageous for the introversion. The church, having received the label «heritage of the XXth century» by the Ministry of Culture and Communication, is listed(classified) in titles(securities) of historic monuments in 2007.
