Small animals to manipulate, large creatures to admire: a rare presentation in France of the work of Theo Jansen, this exhibition allows us to dive into the work of this brilliant sculptor and inventor.
His Strandbeests, articulated structures, move with ease in an autonomous way, thanks to the only force of the wind. Built with simple tubes and recycled materials, they impress with their anatomy and their spectacular dimension. After creating this retrospective with the Kunstmuseum in The Hague, Jansen reveals here his techniques and his astonishing journey.
The Strandbeests are much more than art objects. Theo Jansen strives to truly create life with the ultimate goal of letting his creations live unassisted, in large flocks, on the beach. He realizes that this will not be a reality in the short term, he clearly expressed his dream in an interview with National Geographic: "Give me a few more million years and my Strandbeests will live completely alone".

Des petites bêtes à manipuler, des grosses créatures à admirer: rarissime présentation en France du travail de Theo Jansen, cette exposition permet de plonger dans l’œuvre de ce génial sculpteur et inventeur.
Ses Strandbeests, structures articulées, se déplacent avec aisance de manière autonome, grâce à la seule force du vent. Construites avec de simples tubes et des matériaux de récupération, elles impressionnent par leur anatomie et leur dimension spectaculaire. Après avoir créé cette rétrospective avec le Kunstmuseum de La Haye, Jansen dévoile ici ses techniques et son étonnant parcours.
Les Strandbeests sont bien plus que des objets d’art. Theo Jansen s’efforce de créer réellement la vie dans le but ultime de laisser vivre ses créations sans aide, en grands troupeaux, sur la plage. Il se rend compte que ce ne sera pas une réalité à court terme, il a clairement exprimé son rêve dans une interview au National Geographic : «Donnez-moi encore quelques millions d’années et mes Strandbeests vivront complètement seuls ».
