Photography is a meeting point and sometimes conflict between technology, art and representation. Since its invention, it has been in an unstable balance between these three fields, which have continued to evolve and interact over the past two centuries.
To consider photography in 2026 is to envisage the profound mutations of a medium that is no longer only chemical or digital, but incorporated into our lives. It is not a question of understanding what he shows, but how he shows. It is a question of grasping the speed and the extent of images that have become data streams above all.
The exhibition CTRL. proposes to think photography from its process of making and appearance. Contrary to the uses that place the viewer in front of the image, the exhibition focuses on its reverse side, on the devices that carry and transport it.
The works presented belong to different currents and are made by artists and photographers of different generations. Through plural approaches (photography, installation, sound pieces, statements), they explore the very matter of images and play with the photographic machine, this apparatus that today shapes, validates and modifies our existences.
This exhibition is part of a curatorial research project carried out throughout the year 2026 by a group of students from the École nationale supérieure de la photographie, under the direction of artist-researcher Nicolas Giraud.
