Im Jahr 2026 verbindet die Ausstellung des Musée de Normandie die jüngste Geschichte des Schlosses von Caen mit dem Blick der Fotografen auf seine Umwandlung, von einem Militärgebäude zu einem historischen Denkmal, heute ein Ort der Kultur und des Erbes.
Das Schloss von Caen, eine Enklave im Herzen der Stadt, bildet in der Städteplanung wie in der Ikonographie ein besonderes Element. Lange von der Fotografie ignoriert, wie es im 19. Jahrhundert die militärischen Gebäude waren, wird er am Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs zum Gegenstand der Aufmerksamkeit, als das Mauerstücken beginnt, das ihn nach und nach in einen historischen, musealen und touristischen Ort verwandelt.
Die Ausstellung ist als Fotoalbum des Schlosses von der ersten bekannten Aufnahme im Jahre 1861 bis heute konzipiert. Die Sammlung von 150 unveröffentlichten Werken und Dokumenten bietet eine doppelte Perspektive: jene der Experten - Historiker, Archäologen, Stadtplaner -, die ein standardisiertes Dokumentarbild produzieren, und jene der Fotografen, die das Material, das Licht und die Seele des Ortes einfangen. Diese Bilder spiegeln die Identität des Schlosses wider, das ständig neu definiert wird, und enthüllen durch seine Metamorphosen die Geschichte dieses emblematischen Gebäudes.

In 2026, the exhibition at the Musée de Normandie weaves a link between a recent history of the Château de Caen and the way photographers view its transformation from a military building to a historic monument, now a place of culture and heritage.
The Château de Caen, an enclave in the heart of the city, is a separate element in urban planning as well as in iconography. Long ignored by photography, as are in the 19th century military buildings, it became an object of attention at the end of the Second World War when the molt began which gradually transformed it into a heritage, museum and tourist place.
The exhibition is conceived as an album of photographs of the castle from the first known image in 1861 until today. The set of 150 works and unpublished documents offers a double point of view: that of experts—historians, archaeologists, urban planners—who produce a standardized documentary image and that of photographers who capture the material, light and soul of the place. These images reflect the identity of the castle, in perpetual redefinition, and reveal, through its metamorphoses, the history of this emblematic building.

Nel 2026, l'esposizione del Museo di Normandia intreccia il legame tra la storia recente del castello di Caen e lo sguardo dei fotografi sulla sua trasformazione, da edificio militare a monumento storico, oggi luogo di cultura e patrimonio.
Il castello di Caen, enclave nel cuore della città, costituisce nell'urbanistica come nell'iconografia un elemento a parte. Per lungo tempo ignorato dalla fotografia, come nel XIX secolo gli edifici militari, divenne oggetto di attenzione alla fine della seconda guerra mondiale, quando iniziò la muta che lo trasformò gradualmente in un luogo storico, museale e turistico.
L'esposizione è concepita come un album di fotografie del castello dalla prima immagine nota nel 1861 fino ad oggi. L'insieme di 150 opere e documenti inediti offre un doppio punto di vista: quello degli esperti - storici, archeologi, urbanisti - che producono un'immagine documentaria standardizzata e quello dei fotografi che catturano la materia, la luce e l'anima del luogo. Queste immagini riflettono l'identità del castello, in continua ridefinizione, e rivelano, attraverso le sue metamorfosi, la storia di questo edificio emblematico.
Mostra realizzata in collaborazione con l'Ardi - Photographies, Associazione Regionale per la Diffusione dell'Immagine in Normandia. Commissariato scientifico: Céline Ernaelsteen, storica della fotografia incaricata di una missione per l'Ardi - Photographies.

En 2026, l'exposition du Musée de Normandie tisse le lien entre une histoire récente du château de Caen et le regard porté par les photographes sur sa transformation, d’un édifice militaire à un monument historique, aujourd’hui lieu de culture et de patrimoine.
Le château de Caen, enclave au cœur de la cité, constitue dans l’urbanisme comme dans l’iconographie un élément à part. Longtemps ignoré par la photographie, comme le sont au 19e siècle les édifices militaires, il devient objet d’attention à la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale alors que débute la mue qui peu à peu le transforme en un lieu patrimonial, muséal et touristique.
L’exposition est conçue comme un album de photographies du château depuis la première image connue en 1861 jusqu’à aujourd’hui. L’ensemble de 150 œuvres et documents inédits offre un double point de vue : celui des experts — historiens, archéologues, urbanistes — qui produisent une image documentaire normée et celui des photographes qui capturent la matière, la lumière et l’âme du lieu. Ces images reflètent l’identité du château, en perpétuelle redéfinition, et révèlent, à travers ses métamorphoses, l’histoire de cet édifice emblématique.

En 2026, la exposición del Museo de Normandía establece un vínculo entre la historia reciente del castillo de Caen y la visión que los fotógrafos tienen sobre su transformación, desde un edificio militar a un monumento histórico, hoy lugar de cultura y patrimonio.
El castillo de Caen, enclave en el corazón de la ciudad, constituye en el urbanismo como en la iconografía un elemento aparte. Durante mucho tiempo ignorado por la fotografía, como lo son en el siglo XIX los edificios militares, se convierte en objeto de atención al final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial cuando comienza la mutación que poco a poco lo transforma en un lugar patrimonial, museal y turístico.
La exposición está concebida como un álbum de fotografías del castillo desde la primera imagen conocida en 1861 hasta la actualidad. El conjunto de 150 obras y documentos inéditos ofrece un doble punto de vista: el de los expertos -historiadores, arqueólogos, urbanistas- que producen una imagen documental normalizada y el de los fotógrafos que capturan la materia, la luz y el alma del lugar. Estas imágenes reflejan la identidad del castillo, en constante redefinición, y revelan, a través de sus metamorfosis, la historia de este edificio emblemático.
Exposición realizada en colaboración con ARDI - Photographies, Asociación Regional para la Difusión de la Imagen en Normandía. Comisaría científica: Céline Ernaelsteen, historiadora de la fotografía encargada de la misión para el Ardi - Photographies.
