Pierre-Jérôme Jehel, Ein Futter des Unsichtbaren
Die Ausstellung ist das Ergebnis einer fotografischen Residenz im Maison Auguste Comte, heute ein dem Philosophen des Positivismus gewidmetes Museum. Diese Pariser Wohnung ist praktisch im Originalzustand seit 1841 erhalten, als der Philosoph dort einzog. Er war dem Ort sehr verbunden und bezeichnete ihn als sein „heiliges Heim".
Der Fotograf arbeitete sowohl mit den Räumlichkeiten als auch mit den fotografischen Archiven und lädt das Publikum ein, die tiefe Dimension dieses intimen Territoriums durch einen Dialog zwischen Ort, Bild und Erinnerung zu erfassen.
Jede Serie greift ein Verfahren auf, das an die Erfindung des fotografischen Prinzips erinnert: Fokussierung durch Linsen, Kontaktabzug, Negativ/Positiv, Beugung. Dieser experimentelle und beobachtende Ansatz erinnert an die Methode und Lehre, die Auguste Comte insbesondere in dieser Wohnung verfolgte.
Die Archive werden erkundet, indem das fotografische Objekt in seiner Beschaffenheit und seinem Gebrauch betrachtet wird: die Negative in ihrer Materialität und als Abschrift der Welt, die Alben als Spiel mit der Identität. Die Porträtsammlung der Positivistischen Gesellschaft erscheint wie eine prophetische Vorwegnahme unserer Zeit, in der Selbstbilder ausgetauscht werden und Gesichter ein soziales „Profil" formen.
Das 19. Jahrhundert wurde vom Geist des Positivismus durchweht, in den sich die Erfindung der Fotografie einschreiben könnte. Der Physiker und Astronom François Arago stellte sie der Welt vor, und die Fotografie wurde als Zugang zu wissenschaftlicher Objektivität wahrgenommen. Dennoch neigte sie sich sogleich auch künstlerischen Anliegen zu. Gerade in dieser Spannung zwischen scheinbarer Rationalität und sinnlicher Wahrnehmung liegt sicherlich eine der reichsten Eigenheiten des fotografischen Mediums.

Pierre-Jérôme Jehel, A lining of the invisible
The exhibition is the culmination of a photographic residency at the Maison Auguste Comte, today a museum dedicated to the philosopher of positivism. This Parisian apartment has been preserved almost exactly as it was since 1841, when the philosopher moved in. Deeply attached to the place, he referred to it as his "sacred home."
The photographer worked with both the site itself and its photographic archives, inviting the public to grasp the deep dimension of this intimate territory through a dialogue between place, image, and memory.
Each series draws on a device that echoes the very invention of the photographic principle: lens focusing, contact printing, negative/positive, diffraction. This experimental, observational approach recalls the method and teaching that Auguste Comte pursued, notably within this very apartment.
The archives are explored by considering the photographic object through its nature and its uses: negatives in their material form and as transcriptions of the world, albums as a play on identity. The collection of portraits from the Positivist Society appears as a prophetic anticipation of our own era, in which self-images circulate and faces shape a social "profile."
The nineteenth century was swept by the spirit of positivism, within which the invention of photography might well belong. Revealed to the world by the astronomer and physicist François Arago, photography was perceived as a gateway to scientific objectivity. Yet it would immediately lean toward artistic concerns as well. It is certainly within this tension between apparent rationality and sensitive perception that one of the richest specificities of the photographic medium lies.

La mostra è il risultato di una residenza fotografica nella Maison Auguste Comte, oggi museo dedicato al filosofo del positivismo. Questo appartamento parigino è conservato praticamente intatto dal 1841, quando il filosofo vi si trasferì. Profondamente legato al luogo, lo definiva la sua "sacra dimora".
Il fotografo ha lavorato sia sui luoghi sia sugli archivi fotografici, invitando il pubblico a cogliere la dimensione profonda di questo territorio intimo attraverso un dialogo tra luogo, immagine e memoria.
Ogni serie si ispira a un dispositivo che fa eco all'invenzione del principio fotografico: messa a fuoco tramite lente, contatto, negativo/positivo, diffrazione. Questo approccio sperimentale e osservativo richiama il metodo e l'insegnamento che Auguste Comte portava avanti, in particolare in questo appartamento.
Gli archivi vengono esplorati considerando l'oggetto fotografico nella sua natura e nei suoi usi: i negativi nella loro materialità e come trascrizione del mondo, gli album come gioco sull'identità. La collezione di ritratti della Società positivista appare come un uso profetico della nostra epoca, in cui le immagini di sé si scambiano e i volti costruiscono un "profilo" sociale.
Il XIX secolo è attraversato dal soffio del positivismo, in cui l'invenzione della fotografia potrebbe iscriversi. Rivelata al mondo dal fisico e astronomo François Arago, la fotografia fu percepita come un accesso all'oggettività scientifica. Tuttavia, essa si orientò immediatamente anche verso preoccupazioni artistiche. È certamente in questa tensione tra razionalità apparente e percezione sensibile che risiede una delle più ricche specificità del mezzo fotografico.

L’exposition est l’aboutissement d’une résidence photographique dans la Maison Auguste Comte, aujourd’hui Musée consacré au philosophe du positivisme. Cet appartement parisien est conservé pratiquement en l’état depuis 1841 quand le philosophe s’y installe. Très attaché au lieu, il le désigne comme le « saint domicile ».
Le photographe a travaillé sur les lieux et les archives photographiques, invitant le public à percevoir la dimension profonde de ce territoire intime par un dialogue entre lieu, image et mémoire.
Chaque série s’inspire d’un dispositif en écho à l’invention du principe photographique : focalisation par lentille, contact, négatif / positif, diffraction. Cette approche expérimentale et d’observation évoque la démarche et l’enseignement que Auguste Comte menait, notamment dans cet appartement.
Les archives sont explorées en considérant l’objet photographique par sa nature et ses usages : les négatifs dans leur matière et retranscription du monde, les albums dans un jeu sur l’identité. La collection de portraits de la Société positiviste apparaît comme un usage prophétique de notre époque où les images de soi s’échangent et les visages façonnent un « profil » social.
Le XIXe siècle est balayé par le souffle du positivisme où l’invention de la photographie pourrait s’inscrire. Révélée au monde par le physicien astronome, François Arago, la photographie a été perçue comme un accès à l’objectivité scientifique. Pour autant, elle penchera immédiatement vers des préoccupations artistiques. C’est certainement dans cette tension entre rationalité apparente et perception sensible que se situe une des plus riches spécificités du médium photographique.

Este apartamento parisino se conserva prácticamente tal cual desde 1841, cuando el filósofo se instaló en él. Muy apegado al lugar, lo llamaba su "santo domicilio".
El fotógrafo trabajó tanto con el espacio como con los archivos fotográficos, invitando al público a percibir la dimensión profunda de este territorio íntimo mediante un diálogo entre lugar, imagen y memoria.
Cada serie se inspira en un dispositivo que hace eco a la invención del principio fotográfico: enfoque por lente, contacto, negativo/positivo, difracción. Este enfoque experimental y de observación evoca el método y la enseñanza que Auguste Comte desarrollaba, en particular en este apartamento.
