Temporary exhibition(exposure) "Odyss' Elec"

Discover across the eye of Xavier Popy, the emblematic sites of the industrial heritage of EDF
3 July - 30 September 2018Passed
© EDF – Xavier POPY / REA

Realised by Xavier Popy, photographer, this exhibition(exposure) highlights the tidal factory of Rancid as well as other production sites or industrial museums supported by the group EDF: the nuclear power plant of Chinon, the Electropolis museum of Mulhouse, the hydroelectrical power plant of Kembs, the hydroelectrical power plant of Bazacle in Toulouse, or else the EDF museum Hydrélec in Isère.
The eye and the sensitivity(sensibility) of the photographer sublimate the aestheticism of these emblematic or atypical sites of the industrial heritage of EDF. The artist seizes the part of beauty, of poetry and of sensational which escapes the industrial rationality of these factories or objects, more often looked under a functional angle. Across this exhibition(exposure), EDF invites the public in a dialogue between art, history(story) and industry, and to discover these patrimonial places which tell, in their own way, the fabulous history(story) of electricity

About the location

EDF - Usine marémotrice de la Rance
35780 La Richardais Ille-et-Villaine
  • Ille-et-Vilaine
Inaugurated in 1966 by Charles de Gaulle, the dam(roadblock) EDF of Rancid was the 1st tidal factory in world. The dam(roadblock) and the factory are located in the mouth of the estuary of Rancid on the municipality of Richardais (Ille-et-Vilaine). This industrial site has as objective to produce the hydropower, an energy 100 % renewable, by using the strength of the tide. Its construction also allowed to create a road, of 750 metres long, connecting(binding) Dinard in Saint-Malo and favoured the development of tourist and economic activities in the estuary.
