Médiathèque Pierre-Amalric
30 avenue Charles de Gaulle, 81000 Albi
Inaugurated in 2001, the Pierre-Amalric Media Library bears the name of an Albigensian ophthalmologist passionate about bibliophilia. Located in downtown Albi in the Merville valley, it is the heir to the collections of the Rochegude Public Library. The collections conserved are estimated at approximately 300,000 volumes.
Like many classified libraries, the ancient collections come from revolutionary confiscations that gather documents of ecclesiastical origin.
Thanks to the bequest of Admiral Henri-Pascal de Rochegude in the mid-19th century, his rare and precious holdings were considerably enriched with Occitan books, travel books and bookbinding. Other gifts, during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, have concerned local history but also literature, medicine... It is part of a network of 4 mediatheques: that of Cantepau in Albi, that of Saint-Juéry and that of Lescure-d'Albigeois within the Communauté d'Agglomération de l'Albigeois.
