"Pelharòt! Pelharòt! Pèl of rabbit, pèl of lebre!" This is the way(That's how) the pelharòt – the collector of rabbit's furs - announced in cities and villages of Occitania to get back the skins of animals raised(brought up) to the farm or in the hutches of vegetable gardens in town. Families then dried remains carefully to sell them to the pelharòt, a current(common) practice up to the environment(middle) of the XXth century.
What became therefore these skins of rabbits? The biggest(greatest) part supplied the couperies of hairs who(which) supplied this raw material to the factories of felt hats. Indeed, from 1850s, the hat is fashionable. He(It) comes to the city and to the campaign(countryside), by the ladies and the sirs, and in all categories of the population. Demand(Request) is more and more important, activity hatter develops and machines replace little by little the manual labour. The hats of hairs have advantage to be light, flexible and waterproof in bad weather.
Christian Thomas was trade of skins of rabbits, the modern version of previous "Pelharòt". It was also the last transformer of rabbit's furs in the industrial scale(ladder) in France to in 1960s, then negotiating in international rabbit's furs jusqu’ in its pension(retreat). He(It) created an exhibition(exposure) on a neglected job(business) and today missing: the trader of skins of rabbits.
