The Louvre Museum is rich in a collection from the site of Mari and resulting from a sharing after excavation in accordance with the law of antiquities of the period before the Second World War. The study and restoration of these collections are the subject of several programs aimed at preserving and highlighting this invaluable part of the memory of an archaeological site today partially destroyed by the war in Syria and on which the Louvre museum, with André Parrot, conducted all the archaeological campaigns from 1933 to 1974. This work involves various specialists in archaeology, analysis and restoration. Heritage issues and the presentation of artistic and historical works to the public are accompanied by new studies to better illuminate the cultural, religious and political context of the city. As part of the international cooperation led by the Louvre Museum in Syria, these programs have been extended to the collections of Syrian museums.
