The evening concert presents two epic works sadly misunderstood at their premieres. Piano Concerto No. 1 in B minor was rejected by its dedicatee, who considered it fit for the rubbish, but it quickly became a mainstay of the concert & competition repertoire around the world. A glamorous and captivating piano personality, Khatia Buniatishvili will undoubtedly give a much-needed personal touch to this famous work.
We know the anecdote: disappointed by Bonaparte who became Napoleon I, Beethoven tore up the dedication in his honour. From then on, his Eroica Symphony celebrated the greatness of a hypothetical great man while opening the great double doors to Romanticism in music. But how hard it is to be understood as a pioneer! The work was initially deemed to be dull, endless and disjointed...

Deux œuvres conquérantes et incomprises lors de leur création. Refusé par son dédicataire qui le trouvait tout juste bon à mettre à la poubelle, le Concerto n° 1 en si bémol mineur de Tchaïkovski est vite devenu un des piliers du répertoire de tous les concerts et de tous les concours du monde. Personnalité glamour et fantasque du piano, notre soliste donnera à n’en pas douter un coup de jeune et une note personnelle très attendue à cette œuvre célèbre entre toutes.
On connaît l’anecdote: déçu par Bonaparte devenu Napoléon Ier, Beethoven déchira la dédicace en son honneur. Dès lors, sa Symphonie Héroïque célèbre la grandeur d’un hypothétique grand homme tout en ouvrant les portes du Romantisme en musique à deux battants. Mais comme il est dur d’être compris pour un précurseur! À l’époque, on la trouva assommante, interminable et décousue…
