Did you know that of the nearly 60,000 works preserved at the Palais des Beaux-Arts, only 135 are attributed to women artists and barely a dozen are exhibited? Conceived as a survey, the exhibition «Where are the women?» is dedicated to works created by women artists who have not had the opportunity to be exhibited and treated at their fair value until then. Composed of a hundred works, the course will retrace the varied trajectories of these creators, whose work covers a period from the 17th century to the present day. The choice to highlight paintings, sculptures or drawings made by women is part of a more global approach to grasp the general problem of their invisibilization in the arts. Thus, at the end of the exhibition, some of the works of women artists will enrich the permanent journey.

Saviez-vous que sur près des 60 000 œuvres conservées au Palais des Beaux-Arts, seulement 135 sont attribuées à des artistes femmes et à peine une dizaine sont exposées ?
Conçue comme une enquête, l’exposition « Où sont les femmes ? » se consacre aux œuvres créées par des artistes femmes qui n’ont pas eu l’opportunité d’être exposées et traitées à leur juste valeur jusqu’alors.
Composé d’une centaine d’œuvres, le parcours retracera les trajectoires variées de ces créatrices, dont le travail couvre une période allant du 17e siècle à nos jours.
Le choix de mettre en lumière des peintures, des sculptures ou encore des dessins réalisés par des femmes s’inscrit dans une démarche plus globale de se saisir de la problématique générale de leur invisibilisation dans les arts. Ainsi, à l’issue de l’exposition, certaines des œuvres d’artistes femmes viendront enrichir le parcours permanent.

Wist u dat van de bijna 60.000 werken die bewaard zijn gebleven in het Palais des Beaux-Arts, slechts 135 worden toegeschreven aan vrouwelijke kunstenaars en nauwelijks een dozijn worden tentoongesteld? Opgevat als een enquête, de tentoonstelling «waar zijn de vrouwen?» is gewijd aan werken van vrouwelijke kunstenaars die tot dan toe niet de kans hebben gehad om te worden tentoongesteld en behandeld tegen hun reële waarde. De cursus bestaat uit honderd werken en zal de gevarieerde trajecten van deze scheppers, wier werk een periode van de 17de eeuw tot de huidige tijd bestrijkt, opnieuw volgen. De keuze om schilderijen, beeldhouwwerken of tekeningen van vrouwen te belichten maakt deel uit van een meer globale aanpak om het algemene probleem van hun onvisibilisatie in de kunsten te begrijpen Aan het einde van de tentoonstelling zullen sommige werken van vrouwelijke kunstenaars de permanente reis verrijken.
