The Seventh Space Odyssey, seven as in the Seven Voyages of Sinbad, is a fabulous adventure. It is nevertheless an unmissable rendezvous that, in partnership with the CNES, the Cité de l’Espace and the Cinémathèque de Toulouse, offers visitors a journey into Space and into cinema.

It is an odyssey that heads back to the future this year, as we will look at Space as seen by the cinema of a power that no longer exists: the Soviet Union. It offers the chance to remember that, whilst we don’t really consider the cinema of eastern Europe when we think of science-fiction, it is not only defining – and very particular, showcasing a vision of the conquest of Space that is ideologically different from that which we have come to know though American film – but also one which, paradoxically, was influenced and perhaps even infiltrated by American cinema.
