Im Gefolge von Fernand Braudel und Habib Bourguiba wird diese Diskussionsrunde den Aufbau tunesischer Identitäten im Maßstab der langen mediterranen Zeit erforschen. Welche Überreste - von Karthago, Hannibal, der griechisch-römischen Welt oder der arabisch-muslimischen Zeit - werden heute als Bestandteile der nationalen Identität beansprucht, und warum werden andere in Vergessenheit geraten? Die Gespräche werden die Verbindungen zwischen Erinnerung, Geschichte und nationaler Erzählung sowie den Platz des Islam, der arabischen Sprache und des mediterranen Erbes im heutigen Tunesien untersuchen.

Round table proposed as part of the Mediterranean Season of the French Institute
Following in the footsteps of Fernand Braudel and Habib Bourguiba, this round table will explore the construction of Tunisian identities on a long-term Mediterranean time scale. Which legacies – from Carthage, Hannibal, the Greco-Roman world, or the Arab-Muslim period – are now claimed to be constitutive of national identity, and why are others relegated to oblivion? The exchanges will question the links between memory, history and national narrative, as well as the place of Islam, the Arabic language and Mediterranean heritages in contemporary Tunisia.

Quali eredità - di Cartagine, di Annibale, del mondo greco-romano o del periodo arabo-musulmano - sono oggi rivendicate come costituenti dell'identità nazionale, e perché altre vengono relegate nell'oblio? Gli scambi interrogheranno i legami tra memoria, storia e narrazione nazionale, nonché il posto dell'islam, della lingua araba e delle eredità mediterranee nella Tunisia contemporanea.

Dans le sillage de Fernand Braudel et de Habib Bourguiba, cette table ronde explorera la construction des identités tunisiennes à l'échelle du temps long méditerranéen. Quels héritages – de Carthage, d'Hannibal, du monde gréco-romain ou de la période arabo-musulmane – sont aujourd'hui revendiqués comme constitutifs de l'identité nationale, et pourquoi d'autres sont-ils relégués dans l'oubli ? Les échanges interrogeront les liens entre mémoire, histoire et récit national, ainsi que la place de l'islam, de la langue arabe et des héritages méditerranéens dans la Tunisie contemporaine.

A raíz de Fernand Braudel y Habib Bourguiba, esta mesa redonda explorará la construcción de las identidades tunecinas a lo largo del tiempo mediterráneo. ¿Qué herencias -de Cartago, Aníbal, del mundo grecorromano o del período árabe-musulmán- se reivindican hoy como constituyentes de la identidad nacional, y por qué otros quedan relegados al olvido? Los intercambios cuestionarán los vínculos entre la memoria, la historia y la narrativa nacional, así como el lugar del islam, de la lengua árabe y de las herencias mediterráneas en la Túnez contemporánea.
